Tukhovskaya et al. (2021) investigated DSIP in a rat model of focal stroke induced by intraluminal middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). DSIP was administered over an 8-day course beginning prior to occlusion and continuing through reperfusion. A battery of behavioral assessments – including rotarod testing for motor coordination and balance – was performed at multiple time points over 21 days. Brain infarction volume was measured from serial cryosections at study termination. The authors reported that DSIP-treated animals showed significantly accelerated recovery of motor performance on the rotarod test compared to vehicle-treated controls, although the difference in brain infarction volume did not reach statistical significance [1].
